Stable Hand/Groomer CLOSED
A private equestrian training facility in New Jersey is searching for an experienced horse groomer/stable hand to provide proper care to her competition equine. This role requires the employee to communicate directly and routinely with the staff, trainers, and vets. The ability to communicate confidently and clearly is a must.
Daily responsibilities:
- clean stalls
- feeding
- turn out / bring in horses (some could be excitable depending on conditions)
- light grooming of horses
- maintaining the indoor ring
- general stable/stable yard management
- ability to care for the horses after working - bathing, cooling out, adjusting blankets
- basic medical care as needed – the ability to recognize emergencies or medical issues
- Operate the front loader tractor/ gator/ maybe some weed whacking
- Must be able to lift 50+ lbs. throughout the day routinely
There are nine stalls in the barn. The principal has two retired horses and three competitive sport horses (dressage). They also have two rescued mini horses (pets) and five rescued sheep. The principal would like to add non-competitive boarders or retiree horses in the near future.
During the winter months, the three sport horses go to Florida from Dec-May, decreasing the workload during that time frame. The principal will fly back and forth during the winter months and requires someone competent to keep an eye on the facility and remaining horses when she is absent.
Housing and horse boarding are provided (one horse). Pet dogs and cats are welcome. There is a two-bedroom, one bathroom cottage on the property for the groomer. The cottage has washer/dryer, a small kitchen, a living room, and a storage basement.
The principal desires someone with proven tenure and long-term commitment.
