A private family in St. Louis, Missouri is looking to engage an experienced and passionate Private Chef on a long-term basis.

The family is looking for someone who truly enjoys the art of cooking, remains curious about food, and enjoys learning, experimenting, and introducing new ideas into the kitchen.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in healthy French, Italian, and American cuisine, along with extensive knowledge and experience with gluten-free and allergy-conscious cooking. Understanding ingredients, preparation methods, allergens, and cross-contamination is incredibly important for this household.

The family enjoys fresh, wholesome ingredients and beautifully prepared meals that are health-conscious while still being flavorful and interesting. The Chef should be particularly comfortable creating vegetable- and fruit-forward dishes, while also being confident preparing game, red meats, poultry, seafood, and heartier dishes to accommodate different preferences within the family.

At times, dinner may require two or even three different main courses to accommodate Mr. and Mrs., as well as their daughter’s individual dietary needs and allergies. Adaptability, creativity, organization, and outstanding kitchen hygiene are essential.

THE HOUSEHOLD

Monday through Friday, the Chef will typically be cooking for Mr. and Mrs. Their household is generally quiet and informal during the week; however, professional parameters, discretion, and appropriate boundaries are expected to be maintained at all times.

The family are busy professionals, and their schedules can occasionally run late. On these evenings, there is no expectation for the Chef to remain at the residence unnecessarily. It is perfectly acceptable to prepare dinner and leave it appropriately stored, labeled, and ready for the family to reheat and enjoy when they return home.

From time to time, their daughter will be home from college, and the family also enjoys entertaining on occasion. There may therefore be weekends when the Chef is asked to assist with family meals, guests, or entertaining. Flexibility around these occasions is appreciated, with as much advance notice as possible.

The family truly cherish their family time. The right Chef should be able to read the room, understand when support is needed, and equally know when to step away and allow the family to enjoy their time together.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and prepare fresh, healthy, high-quality daily meals

• Create menus featuring healthy French, Italian, and American cuisine

• Prepare gluten-free and allergy-conscious meals with careful attention to ingredients, preparation methods, and cross-contamination

• Create interesting vegetable- and fruit-forward dishes using fresh, seasonal ingredients

• Confidently prepare game, red meats, poultry, seafood, and other proteins

• Adapt meals to accommodate different tastes and dietary requirements within the family

• Be comfortable preparing multiple dishes or main courses for the same meal when required

• Source fresh, high-quality ingredients and manage grocery shopping and food procurement

• Maintain kitchen inventory, refrigerators, freezers, and pantries

• Keep pantries and food-storage areas beautifully organized and properly labeled

• Prepare and leave fresh, labeled food and meals for the family to enjoy throughout the week as needed

• When the family’s schedule runs late, prepare and leave dinner properly stored and ready to reheat

• Maintain an exceptionally clean, organized, and hygienic kitchen

• Continue to explore new recipes, ingredients, techniques, and healthy approaches to cooking

• Provide occasional weekend coverage when needed

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The family is looking for an experienced Private Chef who is:

• Well versed in gluten-free and allergy-conscious cooking

• Experienced with healthy French, Italian, and American cuisine

• Confident preparing both vegetable-forward dishes and a variety of proteins

• Creative, adaptable, and genuinely passionate about food

• Comfortable preparing multiple dishes when family members have different preferences

• Exceptionally clean, organized, and attentive to detail

• Confident taking ownership of the kitchen, shopping, pantry, and inventory

• Professional, polished, discreet, and respectful of a private household

• Able to read the room and understand the parameters of working within someone's home

• Flexible and willing to assist with occasional weekend coverage

• Interested in establishing a long-term position with the family

LOCATION & SCHEDULE

St. Louis, Missouri

The regular schedule will be Monday through Friday, with flexibility for occasional weekend coverage when the family is entertaining or has additional family in residence.

Prepare dinner each day, including a soup or salad, main course, and dessert. Prepare breakfast items for the following morning to reheat, along with fresh fruit and juice, and set the coffee machine. Prepare and pack lunch for Mrs. to take to the office and prepare and serve lunch for Mr. at home. Leave prepared food for the weekends that is easy to reheat. 

Must have excellent time-management skills, be highly organized, and have the ability to self-manage the day efficiently while ensuring all meals, preparation, shopping, and kitchen responsibilities are completed to a high standard.

COMPENSATION

$130,000+ annually, depending on experience.

Relocation assistance is available for the right out-of-state candidate.
