Job Title: Laundress (Private Residence)
Location: Torrington, CT
Position Type: Full-Time, Tuesday through Saturday, 40-50 hours per week

A private family is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Laundress to join our household staff at the country home near Torrington, CT. The family take pride in maintaining a well-run and organized home, and we are looking for an individual who can manage our laundry needs efficiently and with meticulous care. The family consists of two adults and their teenage children. The family has dogs, so being comfortable with animals is essential. The property is in the county and sites on significant acreage main residence and guest buildings. There is a fulltime chef/manager and housekeeper on site. The family are of European background. Frech or Italian speaking candidates welcomed.
Job Description:
Position Overview: You will be responsible for managing all aspects of our laundry and garment care. You will work closely with our household staff to ensure that clothing, linens, and other textiles are cleaned, pressed, and stored to the Clients’ standards.
Responsibilities:
- Laundry Management:
- Sort, wash, dry, fold, and iron clothing, linens, and other textiles according to care instructions and preferences.
- Handle delicate fabrics, stains, and special care items with attention to detail and care.
- Maintain laundry equipment and supplies, including regular cleaning and maintenance.
- Garment Care:
- Follow specific instructions for garment care, including mending, alterations, and storage.
- Coordinate with outside vendors for specialized garment care services as needed.
- Organization and Inventory:
- Keep track of inventory levels for clothing, linens, and other textiles, and communicate any needs or concerns to the household manager.
- Maintain organization and orderliness in laundry storage areas and closets.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with other household staff to coordinate laundry schedules and tasks.
- Report any maintenance issues or concerns with laundry equipment to the appropriate parties in a timely manner.
- Adherence to Standards:
- Adhere to specific instructions and preferences provided by the homeowner regarding laundry products, techniques, and scheduling.
- Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding the homeowner's personal information and garment care preferences.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a laundress or in a similar role, preferably in a private residence or high-end hospitality setting.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and precision in garment care.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Flexibility to work Tuesday through Saturday and accommodate occasional schedule changes as needed.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in laundry management or garment care preferred.
- Additional training or certification in textile care techniques is a plus.
