Experienced Laundress - Manhattan, NY - CLOSED
POSITION OVERVIEW
A distinguished private household situated in a grand Upper East Side brownstone is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Laundress to join their professional household team. This is a refined, detail-driven role suited to a candidate who possesses genuine expertise in the care of fine garments, luxury linens, and high-end textiles. Reporting directly to the House Manager, the Laundress will serve as the dedicated standard-bearer for all aspects of wardrobe and linen care across the primary Manhattan residence, with seasonal support at the owners’ Hamptons property as required.
SCHEDULE
New York City: Monday through Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm
Hamptons: 4 days on, 3 days off – schedule coordinated in accordance with the principals’ requirements
Flexibility to support the owners’ additional seasonal residences and travel-related needs is required.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage all household laundry and ironing duties to an impeccable standard on a daily basis
- Provide meticulous care for the owners’ fine garments, luxury fabrics, and delicate textiles
- Maintain and update a comprehensive wardrobe inventory system
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all items sent to and received from dry cleaners, specialist repairers, and reweaving services
- Inspect and organize all closets and drawers throughout the residence on a daily basis, including guest rooms in use
- Perform the full range of laundry duties: washing, steaming, mending, and ironing of clothing and household linens; ensuring all items are returned to their designated locations promptly and correctly
- Sort, photograph, and maintain a written inventory of all clothing and linens leaving or entering the household
- Inspect all garments and linens for stains or damage prior to laundering and upon return from external care
- Collaborate with the housekeeping team to assist with packing and unpacking for the owners’ travel
- Manage and restock all laundry supply inventories
- Oversee seasonal wardrobe rotation, including the organized storage of off-season clothing in basement and closets
- Maintain a clean, organized laundry room, including a thorough deep clean of the space and all equipment on a weekly basis
- Assist the House Manager with wardrobe inventory management via FileMaker Pro
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Full-charge laundress experience within a private residence, luxury hotel, or equivalent high-standard environment
- Proven expertise in the care of fine garments, couture, and high-quality household linens
- Familiarity with specialist care protocols for delicate, vintage, and luxury fabrics
- Experience working with or willingness to learn wardrobe inventory systems such as FileMaker Pro
- Exceptional attention to detail and a consistently high personal standard of work
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Professional, discreet, and collaborative team player
- Flexibility to travel seasonally and adapt to the principals’ schedule as required
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary range of $110,000 – $125,000, commensurate with experience. A comprehensive benefits package is provided:
