Seeking a skilled groundskeeper for lovely family in Walnut Creek, California.

Working Schedule and Compensation

30+/- hours per week (i.e. 5 x 6 hrs/day or 4 x 8 hrs/day)

$26-$30/hr D.O.E

Primary Duties

Perform a full range of landscape maintenance duties to maintain over one acre of landscaped grounds,

and five acres of open space for private residence.

  • Operate mowers, hand and power tools, chain saws, power washer and other equipment.
  • Maintain tools and equipment used in landscape maintenance and gardening.
  • Make minor and simple repairs to wood structures or plumbing fixtures.
  • Plant, prune, water, spray, and fertilize plants, flowers, shrubs, hedges, and trees.
  • Cultivate flower beds, weed beds, and containers.
  • Re-sod and repair lawns and playfield.
  • Mow, trim, edge, aerate, and fertilize lawns; trim hedges with hand and power tools; blow and collect leaves and debris; sweep and rake leaves.
  • Mix and apply fertilizers and herbicides according to written and oral instructions, spray for disease and insect control.
  • Monitor, maintain, and trouble-shoot irrigation systems, including multiple Rain Master Evolution DX2 stations and one Rain Master Laguna Central Control System. Make minor alterations to irrigation systems; install and/or repair broken irrigation lines; repair sprinkler heads.
  • Perform simple and minor repairs to landscape lighting, equipment, and structures.

The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of plants, trees, shrubs, insects, and disease. You will know of repair and maintenance procedures and techniques used for grounds maintenance. We are looking for someone who can communicate in English effectively and efficiently, orally and via text. Someone who has prior experience operating maintenance tools and equipment and the ability to monitor, maintain, and trouble-shoot complex irrigation systems is preferred. Possession of a California Department of Pesticide Regulation Qualified Applicator’s (QAC) is a plus.

The ideal candidate must:

Have a minimum of five years of experience in landscaping maintenance, including some technical training in horticulture, landscape maintenance, or a related field.

Have a valid Class C California driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Pass a full criminal background check.

Have excellent references.
