We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and experienced Caregiver to assist a kind, retired surgeon in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Our client, aged 99, is currently recovering from a recent heart attack but remains mentally sharp, articulate, and polite. He enjoys engaging in chess, watching classic movies, basketball, and reading medical journals.
Position Overview:
The primary focus of this position is to assist with daily tasks, monitor well-being, and ensure his safety throughout the day and night. He is independent in many ways—he feeds himself, uses the facilities without assistance, and manages his personal hygiene. The ideal candidate will understand the need for a balance between engaging with him when desired and respecting his space when he prefers solitude.
A full-time live-in companion is also present in the household, responsible for cooking (Eastern cuisine) and cleaning. This position requires five days of live-in coverage, typically Monday through Friday, with overnight support included.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with morning routines and getting up safely.
- Monitor personal hygiene and ensure he maintains his regular habits without incident.
- Provide fall prevention support throughout the day.
- Be attentive during the night in case assistance is needed.
- Engage in conversation and activities when desired, including playing chess and watching movies.
- Understand and respect his need for space and quiet time.
- Provide companionship in a way that enhances his quality of life without overwhelming him.
Requirements:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or similar caregiving certification.
- Experience providing care to elderly clients, preferably in a live-in capacity.
- Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
- Ability to monitor the client’s well-being and respond quickly if help is needed.
- Strong observational skills to ensure the client’s safety and comfort.
- Must be able to commit to live-in care, five days a week.
Compensation:
- $100,000 - $130,000 depending on experience.
- A private bedroom and bathroom are provided in the home.
- This is a full-time (5 days/week), year-round position with consistent hours.
