Experienced Housekeeper

Upper East Side | 63rd Street & Fifth Avenue | New York City

Position Overview

A wonderful and somewhat unique opportunity is available for an experienced, polished Housekeeper to support a private family’s four-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

The family has employed their current Housekeeper for approximately 30 years, and she is now preparing to retire. They are looking for someone who appreciates longevity, takes genuine pride in maintaining a beautiful home, and understands the quiet, sophisticated service standards expected within a private residence.

The principals are an older couple who visit New York periodically throughout the year. In 2025, they did not personally use the apartment; however, family members and friends visited on occasion. When extended family is in residence, the environment is considerably more casual and informal.

Because the apartment is not occupied year-round, this position requires someone who is exceptionally self-directed and knows how to manage their time productively. There will be periods when the family is not in residence, and the successful candidate should naturally identify projects, maintain inventories, oversee vendors, perform detailed cleaning, organize closets and household areas, and keep the Family Office informed of what has been completed.

Responsibilities

The Housekeeper will take full responsibility for maintaining the apartment to an exceptional standard, including:

  • Detailed daily and rotational housekeeping throughout the four-bedroom, three-bathroom residence
  • Laundry, steaming, pressing, ironing, and wardrobe care
  • Excellent packing and unpacking
  • Closet organization and seasonal wardrobe management
  • Proper care of delicate surfaces, furnishings, fabrics, and finishes using the appropriate products and techniques
  • Maintaining household inventories and ensuring supplies are consistently stocked
  • Preparing the apartment prior to the principals’ or family members’ arrival
  • Following established arrival and departure SOPs
  • Stocking the refrigerator and pantry according to the family’s preferences
  • Grocery and household shopping throughout Manhattan
  • Coordinating and overseeing vendors and service providers
  • Communicating with the Family Office regarding household needs, projects, maintenance, and completed work
  • Identifying and completing organizational and detailed cleaning projects during periods when the residence is unoccupied
  • Setting up the residence so everything is beautifully presented and ready upon the family’s arrival

There is no cooking required. However, the Housekeeper should be comfortable ordering meals, picking up food from restaurants, coordinating deliveries, and ensuring everything is properly stored and labeled in the refrigerator.

The family appreciates someone who genuinely knows New York City — where to find the best groceries, specialty items, restaurants, bagels, and everyday necessities. Shopping-related transportation, including taxis, will be reimbursed or charged directly to the household credit card.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have previous private household experience and understand the difference between general cleaning and the meticulous care required within a sophisticated private residence.

This is very much a “right product for the right surface” household. The successful candidate must understand the proper care of delicate materials and finishes rather than approaching the home with one universal cleaning product.

The family is looking for someone who is:

  • Quiet, polished, discreet, and professional
  • Highly experienced in private household service
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized
  • Skilled in high-level laundry and wardrobe care
  • Confident with packing, unpacking, steaming, and pressing
  • Knowledgeable about the care of fine furnishings and delicate surfaces
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing their own schedule
  • Comfortable creating projects and remaining productive when the family is away
  • An excellent communicator who can coordinate effectively with the Family Office
  • Flexible when the principals or family members are in residence
  • Well acquainted with Manhattan and comfortable navigating the city

The principals speak English, French, and Portuguese. Fluency in any of these languages, particularly French or Portuguese in addition to English, would be a wonderful advantage but is not required.

Schedule & Compensation

Schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.

Flexibility will be required when the principals or family members are in residence, although the apartment is used only periodically throughout the year.

Salary: Approximately $120,000 + D/O/E annually, depending on experience. (Overtime offered)

Benefits include:

  • Medical stipend
  • Two weeks paid vacation
  • One week paid sick leave

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned private Housekeeper looking for a long-term position with a family that values loyalty, discretion, exceptional standards, and quiet, professional service.

The family would ideally like to engage their new Housekeeper in September, allowing time for their current Housekeeper, who is retiring after approximately 30 years of service, to assist with onboarding and ensure a smooth and thoughtful transition.
