HOUSE MANAGER – HANDS-ON PRIVATE ESTATE

– RIVER OAKS, HOUSTON

Compensation: $130,000–$150,000 DOE + Benefits
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week, with flexibility as needed

International Domestic Consulting is seeking an experienced, highly capable Hands-On House Manager to support the day-to-day operations of a private estate.

This is an ideal opportunity for a well-rounded private service professional who combines strong household management, administrative capabilities, technology skills, and hands-on property experience. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable coordinating vendors, maintaining household systems and records, troubleshooting technology, and rolling up their sleeves to handle light maintenance or household projects when needed.

Prior experience working within a private residence, family office, estate, yacht, luxury hospitality environment, or similar domestic setting is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate understands the discretion, flexibility, attention to detail, and service mentality required when supporting a private family.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and presentation of the residence.
  • Conduct regular property walkthroughs and proactively identify maintenance or household needs.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and supervise vendors, contractors, service providers, and household projects.
  • Perform light hands-on maintenance including basic plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, furniture assembly, filter changes, and general repairs.
  • Monitor HVAC, lighting, AV, security, irrigation, pool, and other household systems.
  • Troubleshoot basic smart-home and technology issues and coordinate specialists when necessary.
  • Maintain household calendars, vendor contacts, service agreements, maintenance schedules, warranties, inventories, and property records.
  • Assist with administrative responsibilities including scheduling appointments, obtaining estimates, tracking projects, researching vendors, and following up on outstanding items.
  • Receive and coordinate deliveries, repairs, installations, and service appointments.
  • Maintain organized garages, storage areas, utility spaces, household supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist with household inventories, purchasing, vehicle-related needs, and general property logistics.
  • Support seasonal projects, outdoor furniture setup, holiday décor, events, and guest preparations.
  • Assist with moving furnishings, power washing, exterior upkeep, and other hands-on projects as needed.
  • Work collaboratively with household staff and provide support wherever necessary to ensure the residence remains organized, maintained, and guest-ready.

Ideal Candidate

  • Prior professional experience within a private household or domestic environment strongly preferred.
  • Previous House Manager, Estate Manager, Property Manager, Houseman, Facilities Manager, Chief Steward/Stewardess, or similar experience welcomed.
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable with smart-home systems, AV, security, computers, smartphones, apps, and household technology.
  • Administratively savvy, organized, and comfortable with email, calendars, spreadsheets, recordkeeping, scheduling, and vendor management.
  • Broad knowledge of household maintenance with the ability to troubleshoot and handle appropriate repairs independently.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with excellent follow-through.
  • Proactive and able to recognize what needs to be done without waiting for constant direction.
  • Professional, polished, discreet, and comfortable interacting directly with principals, guests, staff, and vendors.
  • Flexible, service-oriented, and genuinely willing to be hands-on when needed.
  • Physically capable of performing active household and property responsibilities.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to successfully complete background and reference checks.
  • Spanish-speaking required.

This position would be an excellent fit for someone who enjoys the variety of private service and wants to take genuine ownership of a residence. The family is seeking someone who can manage, organize, troubleshoot, coordinate, and be hands-on—a true all-around household professional rather than someone limited to one specific trade.
