Overview:
The owners in their mid-70’s seek a trustworthy, experienced, hands-on domestic couple to oversee all aspects of their remote estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The owners spend June-October at the estate and the schedule is M-F 8AM-5PM. Responsibilities include property management, grounds maintenance, cooking, housekeeping, vendor management, security and driving. The couple will live on property year-round. This is an excellent long-term opportunity, one of the previous couples retired after 25 years on property. The owners are offering a very generous compensation & benefits package, plus a private guest house and vehicle, to a mature, stable couple who has a proven track record working together and thrives in a rural, beautiful setting.
The property is 40-acres, but the maintained portion is limited to areas around the buildings. It is located 20 minutes from Los Gatos up winding, mountainous roads. The estate includes a beautifully appointed 7500 sq. ft. main house with 2-bedrooms, 3-baths and a gym, a 1300 sq. ft., fully furnished, recently refurbished guest house and other outbuildings. There are no children or pets in the household and there is minimal entertaining.
Job Responsibilities:
Property Management: Take full responsibility for all aspects of estate care and maintenance. Oversee all assets and services to keep the property up to five-star standard year-round. General repair work as needed or call upon the list of approved service vendors. Hands-on experience with general maintenance and repair a plus: plumbing, carpentry, use of heavy tools like chain saws, light electrical, etc.
Grounds Maintenance: Landscaping, flower plantings, lawn maintenance, tree pruning, general clean up, water feature maintenance (pool, hot tub, koi pond), garbage/recycling, tree removal, fence repairs, solar panel maintenance, etc.
Housekeeping: Cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, stocking amenities, interior plant care, preparing house for arrival of estate owners. Responsible for house related purchases and cash transactions for incidentals.
Vendor Management: Negotiate and manage bids for necessary maintenance work such as window replacement, painting, schedule window washing, repairs, etc. Request, review and compare proposals. Oversee and manage any vendors carrying out work on site. Review and submit vendor invoices for processing. Schedule, supervise and upkeep of maintenance schedules for household vendors: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, generators, well systems, septic pumping, propane deliveries, etc.
Security: Ensure all access to the property is in working order; electronic gates, video cameras, exterior doors, windows, alarm system, etc.
Driving: Provide pick up and drop off at SFO/SJC airports and drive one or both owners as needed to appointments, errands, or activities. This also includes care of owners' vehicles, washing them and driving to dealership for normal maintenance and repair.
Job Requirements:
- At least five years' experience, fully responsible for managing a property as a seasonal home, vacation property, hospitality business (B&B, Country Inn) or other similar role.
- Cooking skills (not gourmet)- Plan and prepare make-ahead dinners for two, provide cooking/reheating instructions, and assist with meal planning and acquisition during the off-season.
- Qualified candidates must work independently and multitask to oversee a diverse set of responsibilities.
- Must be proactive, enthusiastic, trustworthy, energetic and friendly.
- A love for living in the mountains, in an isolated yet beautiful setting with hiking and mountain biking trails across the street.
- Capacity and willingness to take full responsibility for all aspects of estate care and maintenance, either as DIY efforts or project managing 3rd party vendors (bigger projects)
- This role is ideally suited to a couple who enjoy working together and have successfully worked side by side.
- Excellent communication skills are a must.
- Represent owners with integrity, friendliness, respect; you are our ambassadors.
- Tech-savvy including troubleshooting and supporting owners in using iPhone, iPad, MacBook, printers, Wi-Fi and household AV systems.
- Both individuals should be safe drivers

- $150,000-$200,000 dependent on experience, with relocation benefit and additional long-term incentive package
