Domestic Couple

We seek an extraordinary, kind, compassionate, highly skilled couple to assist our wonderful client, who is in her 80s, high functioning, private, and down to earth.

The Property

The property is located on the Chesapeake Bay in Worton, MD. It consists of over 3,000 acres with approximately 5 acres of highly maintained area. Access to the Property is a long, well-maintained road that services several other homes, most of which are used only occasionally and/or seasonally or are residences for other farm staff. The property is used by the owner as a residence, and seasonally by the owner’s grown children.

The Family

One family has owned the property for quite some time and includes an 86-year-old owner, as well as her grown children and their families. The owner travels regularly to Washington DC, as well as domestically, and occasionally internationally. The owner enjoys many long-term relationships with household, gardeners, and office employees. The staff for this property can expect regular personal contact with the owner, as well as the farm manager. The positions are to support the owner and the farm manager, as well as the next generation of the family, including the owner’s grown children.

The Position(s) Domestic Couple

  • Housekeeper and Cook:  The Housekeeper/Cook will report to the owner currently. The workload is generally consistent, although could vary week to week as described. The housekeeper/cook will generally work an 8 hour day with hours usually being split between the morning (housekeeping, laundry and lunch) and the evening (dinner and dining service).. This position occasionally requires one weekend day of work, typically Saturday, for entertaining, such as dinner parties. Additionally, and as agreed upon in advance, the housekeeper/cook may be asked to work a holiday if guests are expected.
  • Additional time off during the week will be provided to compensate for needing help during the weekend or holidays, or overtime will be provided, should it exceed the 40-hour work week.
  • Housing may be provided as part of employment.
  • The property has a new (12-18 months old) 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house available to the ideal couple.
  • The Housekeeper/Cook employee couple may find it easier to live on the property due to the fragmented workday, however it is not required as a condition of employment. Couples are encouraged and welcome as well.
  • Gardener/Houseman/Handyman will support the farm manager and the manage maintenance personal. The role will assist in the house with heavy cleaning, troubleshooting technology, making minor repairs, changing light bulbs, moving furniture etc. This person may also accompany and drive our client to appointments, dinners, and the airport. Running errands and assist with the maintenance of all vehicles on the property to included insurance, decals, cleanliness, servicing etc. of all vehicles. 

General responsibilities include:

  • Grocery shopping: Shop for meals as needed. Personal care, meal planning, and other household organization.
  • Meal preparation: Plan and prepare nutritious meals with owner, including lunch and dinner five days per week. Cook for dinner parties of approximately 6 people, typically on Saturdays, on occasion. Clean up after all meals. Ability to follow recipes required and prior experience in cooking meals for others preferred.
  • Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized household. Clean the house daily, including hallways, entryways, laundry rooms and other common areas. Sweep and clean the expansive porch, dust, vacuum (weekly), clean kitchen and bathrooms. Clean bedrooms, empty wastebaskets as needed.
  • Laundry: Do laundry as needed. Generally light laundry as it is for one person, however dinner parties will create additional laundry such as napkins, tablecloths, etc. Laundry includes washing, folding and/or ironing and distributing to the owner or property as needed. Laundry also includes washing and ironing bedding and making the beds, as well as preparing the bedding and guest rooms for guests, when applicable.
  • Keep pantry, kitchen, and any storage rooms in clean and orderly condition.
  • Stock cleaning and kitchen supplies as needed.
  • Wash windows as needed and additional help will be provided.
  • Health management: Monitoring the Owner’s health and administering medication as needed. While an RN is not required, assisting the Owner, who is currently in good health, would be helpful. Having the ability to do more personal care responsibilities in the future if needed is preferred.
  • Pet management: Assistance with pet care (one dog) may be necessary when the Owner is not at home. The Owner has a small dog so all applicants must be comfortable around dogs.

 

The ideal couple will have prior experience working together, have outstanding references, and have a long-term commitment in mind.

 

Salary $120K to $180K D.O.E
